Citizens! After long, perhaps even overlong labor, Ultraviolet Books has released its new introductory promotional PARANOIA anthology, A1 The Computer is Your Friend. This all-new, bargain-priced book features five previously unpublished stories by the Famous Game Designers of the PARANOIA roleplaying line: me (Allen Varney), Gareth (Mytholder) Hanrahan, WJ (Biggles) MacGuffin, and Greg Ingber.
Three of the stories -- WJ's 9,000-word "Hay Fever," Gareth's 7,500-word "Data Exhaust," and my own 12,000-word "Rule Zero" -- are prequels to the three novels already published in the Ultraviolet Books PARANOIA line: Traitor Hangout, Reality Optional, and Stay Alert, respectively. There's also a history of PARANOIA, both the RPG and the new book line.
The Computer is Your Friend is intended to be the entry point, the gateway drug, the titanium-pointed battering ram for the entire UV Books line. We worked hard to make it an ideal introduction to Alpha Complex for readers who have never before known or understood their intrinsic need to obey The Computer. A1 should be out on DriveThruFiction.com later this month (April). I enrolled the anthology in Amazon's "Kindle Select" program, which permits free borrowing by Amazon Prime members; but enrollment in this program means I can't post the book on any other sites for three months. Unfortunately, the Kindle Select program hasn't worked out well, so I'll be pulling the book from Kindle Select when the three months end, later this month. The book will still be for sale on Amazon, and then I'll be able to post it elsewhere too.

Citizens! In the new "Free The Computer" promotion, PARANOIA anthology A1 The Computer is Your Friend is currently available FREE in Kindle format from the Amazon Kindle store. In the first day of the promotion the book was downloaded about 500 times, which was sufficient to elevate its rank to #9 in the Kindle Library's Science Fiction free list and about #500 on the overall list. But now the book is descending gently, so please download the book and spread the word!

ps, but Amazon try to force me install 'KindleforPC.exe' stuff. Why should I register my devices 'or a reading app that supports this item registered to your Amazon account'? Why can't I just buy the book? Creepy.

| That is Amazon's attempt to lock down their Kindle market. That doesn't involve me or Ultraviolet Books. Note that the UV Books line is DRM-free, so (at least as of when I post them) you can move the books freely among all your devices. |
