I don't know if this is a Linux-specific thing, but I ended up getting a really long wait before getting a connection timeout when the game registry was inaccessible. Something like 5 minutes. If it's useful, I have the exception-dump at http://amacleod.is-a-geek.org/mywiki/JavaParanoia . The long wait comes immediately after I select the "Connect..." menu item. There is another shorter (like 1 or 2 minutes) wait that seems to go with it, after the console says its stuff about audio playback, and before the actual client window appears.
I am using JParanoia 1.31.0
with Blackdown J2RE 1.4.1
on Debian/GNU Linux
with XFree86 4.2.1 |

Hmmm, I don't think I've heard that one before. I would expect it to timeout much sooner than that - perhaps a connection was succesfully opened but then the data just didn't make it through...
I'll look into setting a timeout of my own, and maybe even an option not to contact the game registry. |

I like the idea of the option. That way if it happens again when I'm trying to actually get in a game (rather than observe), I could just set the option and ask for an IP address.
So far the only time that it has happened to me is the night that I posted the original bugreport. In the midst of it I was able to log in to someone's game a couple of times. I will post to this thread again if it happens again. |
