Hello everyone!!
About 10 years ago one of my buddies GM'ed a game called Paranoia and we all had a blast. Well, I just found the revised version Paranoia XP and bought the Core book (the GM Screen and Classic Missions book are on order). Last night I sat down and read on how to make a character...er I mean Troubleshooter so I can help the people who will be playing the game make their own Troubleshooters. I didn't finish everything on my Troubleshooter yet but I have most of it done. I do have some questions that I need help on. Like the Skills...I selected my common, weakness and narrow and as well as added my Secrect Society skills...do the other skills that I didn't select stay blank or do I just put "4's" in each blank spot?
For that matter, is this the correct form to post this kind of question? I am sorry if it is not. I have not found a website to help 1st time GM'ers of Paranoia XP. If someone could help me, that would be greatly appreciated!!

I think one of the things to keep in mind when dealing with character creation is that you are going to want actions to fail/pass based upon your own sadistic streak so pretty much everything below the character name is just something to goad your players into a false sense of security.
In a more formal answer to your question I would gues blank. As Friend Computer would have it "Citizen High-R-SKL, why are you exhibiting treasonous knowledge of skills you haven't been trained in? Report to a confession booth immediately!"
Of course this gives you a great oppertunity to lambast your troubleshooters with situations in which none of them have any skill then watch them each try to force someone else to do it. _________________ Clone Number: 1

According to the book...
I'll assume when you're saying "skills" you're referring to the "specialties" such as Bot Programming, Oratory, etc. All specialties in a category that is left "blank"--neither picked by you to be one of your selected specialties not a selected weakness--is left at the value of the controlling skill, in a fashion similar to the D6 systems of yore.
But of course, the mechanics really are at your whim. Use what you feel is best, and blast away any commie player who would dare tell you you're doing it "wrong". |

Welcome back to Alpha Complex, rap4th! Your Troubleshooter has all the listed specialties under each skill, automatically. at the rating of the governing skill. You don't need to write the rating number in each blank; this would be a treasonous waste of pencil lead, which The Computer and PLC have inveighed against in the long-running "Keep the Lead In!" media public relations campaign.
This is indeed the proper forum to ask such questions. By way of belated warning, you'll note everyone here automatically assumes you're a Gamemaster, not a player, so filter their advice accordingly. |
