Hi all,
reminded by this Paranoia Blog post that Gareth Hanrahan was working on The Big Book of Bots, I dropped by his blog and asked if he could tell us anything about his forthcoming Paranoia work. I was expecting confirming of The Thin Green Line as his second project down the line... what I got was this:
"The Big Book of Bots and The Thin Green Line are this month's projects. July has me doing another two mission anthologies, and I've just sent in a draft schedule for future Paranoia with eight books on it."
First impression: Huzzah!
Second: Gareth is clearly something of a Paranoia champion at Mongoose, in amongst his other commitments, which is great, but I don't believe he's the line editor. So we should assume this is a proposal, facts may change, contents may settle during transit etc.
Still, it got me thinking about the sorts of books that could appear down the line. (I'm going to assume these eight proposed titles cover between now and mid-2010 when the licence comes up again, and include the two in-progress titles)
I would love to see more missions that can be played as Straight...
The Thin Green Line deals with PCs as Vulture Squadron troopers. That should complement the more general Armed Forces material in Service, Service! Could be possibilities for similar Service Group "special units" books... Internal Audit at Power Services could be a paranoid giggle...
I used to hanker for an updated DOA Sector Travelogue - as a kid I loved immersing myself in the fluff and world detail therein - but to a great extent that baton has been picked up by the core rulebook and the excellent Extreme Paranoia (note to all GMs: You really ought to own this book) so I'm not sure what compelling unique content would go in such an update. More than a set of drop-in locations, at least.
What about you lot? Anything you'd like to see in among those forthcoming books? _________________ IC RPG notes, currently "resting": Sheldrake-R-PLN-1 # Laconic, sinewy R&D scientist

| I'm no longer involved with producing the Mongoose PARANOIA books (except sometimes Gareth sends me a manuscript to look over as a courtesy), but I'm pretty sure the Mongoose site's information for The Big Book of Bots is correct and Amazon is, as almost always, stupidly wrong. |

I have seen a similar image to this before, sans the weaponized food, but I can't recall what, specifically, it is. Is this parodizing something? |

I dunno, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was a takeoff of a propaganda poster.
It took me a while to figure out what's going on in the Mandatory Mission Pack but now it's my favourite one.
