Why did I just pay £30 I don't have to pre-order a 1000-copy limited edition rulebook?

Oh, wait.

Cool. When the Anniversary edition was announced, I asked on Mongoose's forums whether the art direction of the line would improve. That looks very swish. Though my inner OCD-sufferer hopes the non-special editions of the later rulebooks sit well with the special one - that or they make special eds of all three Smile

I promised myself a treat out of some recent ebay profits (the rest going on mundane but neccessary things)... think I may have found my target Smile

...

Screw it, I'm taking out a loan.

EDIT: Okay, evidently I don't qualify for a loan.

Meh, job starts after school's out, hopefully it won't be sold out by then.
And if it is, CURSE YOU WHOEVER BOUGHT THE LAST COPY

$50? Uh...I mean I guess I did just make that much back by selling my textbooks back to the bookstore but I don't have a job and I just bought a new RPG book and I really shouldn't spend money I don't need to since I wrecked my car and I'm going out of the country soon...
But I want it.

Curse you, Mongoose Publishing, for releasing something I really want but shouldn't get because I need the money for grad school! I don't want to live on nothing but bricks of ramen noodles! CURSE YOU!

Ah, what the heck. Ramen noodles aren't that bad.

I think I'll plan on buying the UV rules. I hope they don't reference too much the new PARANOIA 25th Year Edition Rulebook that much.

My understanding is that UV and Troubleshooter are two seperate stand-alone games...

What the?

Then why is it still part of PARANOIA? Shouldn't Moongose create a brand new game, with a brand new name?

Judging by the cover of the 25th anniversary rulebook, one could hazard a guess at "Paranoia Black Missions: [insert subline here]".

Think of it as like the original World of Darkness, with less goths. Lots of independant games based on the same system, with an umbrella setting.

Uh...why should they? It's in the same universe so why would they call it something else?

Because it's like having D&D but instead with a totally different ruleset. It's not really, well, D&D. You have to call it something...er...else. Or something.

See, PARANOIA Extreme is PARANOIA because it still uses the exact same character sheet and rules as the Troubleshooters. Of course, it interepts the character sheet differently depending on the job a person has, but at least it uses the same rules.

For example, an R&D INDIGO Scientist who is profienct with laser weaponry is awesome at sending out goons with laser weaponry, while a RED Troubleshooter is only good at firing said laser weaponry. I do not know if an INDIGO Scientist would be able to fire said Laser Gun as effectively as a RED Troubleshooter in a one-on-one battle, but the INDIGO Scientist is vastly superior to a RED Troubleshooter because the INDIGO scientist got redshirts and the Red Troubleshooter...doesn't.

But in this new UV Game, there is the possiblity of having a DIFFERENT character sheet. Meaning that a UV may no longer be able to send out elite Super Troopers With Super-Laser Weapons because he took Laser Weapon Profiency when he was a lowly Troubleshooter. It means all that killing and bootlicking a regular Troubleshooter does becomes pointless when said character gets promoted to ULTRAVIOLET clearance. It's a whole new ballpark.

D&D, AD&D and D&D 3rd edition are arguably pretty dissimilar in terms of rules Razz

That's all pure speculation, though. We have no way of knowing how similar or different the rules and character sheets will be. Or are you getting this info from somewhere else? (If you are, please share! Razz)

But regardless of the differences, due to the fact it uses the PARANOIA intellectual property it probably has to be called PARANOIA, regardless of anything else.

But it's not called D&D because it uses the D&D ruleset, it's called that because it's set in the D&D world. The three upcoming rulebooks are all going to be set in the same world, so to my mind they *should* all share the same name.

Besides, there are a few new rules scattered through Extreme PARANOIA. Some fit the character sheets and some don't fit so well; readers are encouraged to deal with this in the usual fast and loose Paranoid way.

I dare say if you did let a player take a character from RED all the way to UV (since this edition opens up the remote possibilty, and the line has established that paranoia continues even at high clearance), and the characters sheets were wildly different, there'd be some way of fudging it. To my mind, this isn't the game to get all rules-lawyery about Very Happy

Thanks for this. Like using forms in my games and really don't enjoy making my own.

As for the 25th anniversary edition rulebook, I am very excited about it. Plus if they are going to include things like The Traitors Manual and The Mutant Experience all the better so I can put those on my gaming shelf and not worry about banging them up from use.

As for what I want to see in the new edition honestly I don't know. Really excited about the CD coming w/ it though.

One question I do have is w/ the GM screen that is up for pre-order is the a re-release of the screen w/ the mission blender or is it a new one. Just wanting to know as I have the Mission Blender one.
