Looks like Mongoose has had to let Gareth go. A great pity. He's established himself as one of the great RPG writers, IMO, and I hope he can stay in the industry.

I daresay, especially with the positive coverage the Traveller and Paranoia 2009 texts have received, it's not a decision Mongoose have taken lightly... if the company has to tighten its collective belt to avoid recession-based troubles, so be it. A sad event though

Hey, come on. He is not dead yet! He's still alive. And it does not mean he has lost his ability to write. Maybe its time to return to the family, recharge his Power and Access attributes. Not literally, of course.

Indeed, I'm not going anywhere. I hope to keep freelancing on Paranoia, at any rate, while also picking up work on other game lines and possibly self-publishing some material.

You're right, of course. I know that Gareth leaving full-time employment with Mongoose doesn't constitute The End of Gareth. I just feel sad if anyone I know and/or respect gets laid off in times like these, especially when they're putting out great work.
