The highest security clearance assigned to any citizen of Alpha Complex. It is above VIOLET, and below nothing. Rumors of a hypothetical GAMMA clearance, supposedly above ULTRAVIOLET, are treason.

ULTRAVIOLETs are The Computer's most trusted citizens. The Computer trusts only ULTRAVIOLETs to program its CompNodes. In fact, though all ULTRAVIOLET citizens are colloquially called High Programmers, not all ULTRAVIOLETs have actual Computer Programming skill worth mentioning.

There have been isolated instances when ULTRAVIOLETs, controlled by CMTs, abused the privilege of programming The Computer to justify the creation of secret societies, allow for treasonous deeds to be honored, and ruin The Computer. They are very rare, and all treasonous ULTRAVIOLETs have been caught by IntSec and fellow ULTRAVIOLETs.

Though a few UVs seek publicity and are known across Alpha Complex, most are shadowy and mysterious figures. ULTRAVIOLETs typically own large portfolios of service firms and exercise tremendous influence over their service groups. Some ULTRAVIOLETs serve anonymously on a High Council that allocates control over sectors. (The Computer hand-picks who gets to join in this High Council.) There have been treasonous rumors that some ULTRAVIOLETs hold high positions in secret societies.

Each ULTRAVIOLET has risen to his lofty status through adroit work by his own personal Program Group, a Class A secret society. Rumors say an ULTRAVIOLET can use his Program Group as a way to front treasonous activites without getting caught.
